Kustom From Japan: Side Project Cafe

A prime example that the custom car scene in Japan is just as much about culture as it is the cars is Side Project Cafe in Mie. The cafe is fairly unique for Japan in that it is quite large, being a converted warehouse, but with a comforting hang out style vibe that hosts cruise nights often for a variety of custom car scenes from VW to mini trucks. Side Yokotani, his wife, and his sister Hima operate the cafe. It features American style cuisine and decorated cakes. It also features a custom convertible VW Bug in the center of the dining area showcasing the family’s love of Volkswagens. Side also has a VW shop nearby called The Red Box.
