New for '22: Toyota Keeps 4Runner Fresh with New Color and New TRD Sport Model

With the current fifth gen generation Toyota 4Runner hanging around since 2010 and last getting a major refresh in 2014, the consensus is that all-new sixth gen model isn't far off.

Yet with demand and interest higher than ever, it seems like the current model still has some life left in it. And for 2022 Toyota has just announced some new updates for the 4Runner as well as new trim level for the lineup.

New for 2022

The new 4Runner model for 2022 is called the TRD Sport, and like its cousin the Tacoma TRD Sport, this package is aimed at buyers looking for improved on-road performance.

Available in both two and four-wheel-drive, the TRD Sport gets uniquely tuned suspension with X-REAS adjustable dampers and standard 20" wheels and tires. The TRD Sport models also get unique body-colored accents, a hood scoop and TRD Sport branding inside and out.

The flagship of the 4Runner line though, continues to be the off-road ready TRD Pro model, which for 2022 gets the addition of a standard multi-terrain monitor system which uses cameras to help the driver keep an eye obstacles. This compliments other off-road spec upgrades like Fox shocks, TRD springs and Nitto Terra Grappler all terrain tires.

'22 Exclusive Color

Another expected update for the 2022 4Runner TRD Pro is its exclusive "Lime Rush" exterior color, which is also available on the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro.

While the upcoming next gen 4Runner will no doubt be one of the most anticipated new SUVs to come around in sometime, Toyota continues to extract everything it can from the current model.

And like the previous model year TRD Pro 4Runners, the 2022 models should have no shortage of buyers lining up to grab them at MSRP, and unfortunately, often above MSRP.
