10 Things I Loved at Wekfest LA 2015

Wekfest is one of my favorite car shows that's come way, way up the past few years. Starting from their Bay Area headquarters, they've blossomed out as far east as New York, taken on the Lone Star State, have gone as far as the far east (that's Japan to you) and of course my hometown, Los Angeles. It's no surprise they bring in some of the finer cars, with strict guidelines on accepting registration, but that's fine by me. Quality reigns supreme at any Wekfest stop. Here are 10 things I loved most about their most recent stop in SoCal:   DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-01

Mugen Aero + Overfenders on a DC2R Integra

I don't see DC2 ITRs too often and this one really caught my eye, not only for the overfenders (still trending hard) but for the Mugen aero! Nice beefy K-swap with ITBs and bronze MF10s. DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-02

H22-Powered Prelude 4WS

Parked a couple cars down was this old school 'Lude - rarely modded (at least not since the better part of my high school days), this had an ultra clean bay with a H22 stuffed into it. DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-03

The Tsukinousagi FR-S

Coming all the way from Vancouver BC is one of Canada's most Instafamous FR-S builds, sporting the classic Rocket Bunny aero and nicely concave Mag Blue-colored TE37s. Cool to see this in person finally and not on my iPhone. DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-04 DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-05 DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-06

The 1990s called...

If you saw this Accord Wagon, you either gave it the props it deserves or laughed at its throwback styling. True to '90s-era mods, this thing had it all: ragtop roof, shaved door handles, old school Racing Harts, two-tone interior and hydros BUT totally appreciate the copper theme, H22 swap and other small new school touches. Street Faction "Dreamer 77" Rocket Bunny 240SX

Fresh out the paint booth was this 240 hatchback with the latest Rocket Bunny body conversion, which had everyone coming by to check it out. It's still midway through construction, missing an engine but the exterior is all that and then some. Can't wait to see the finished product. DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-09

Mugen Crew

I'm glad I'm seeing three long-time car friends of mine bringing their showroom-perfect builds to car shows like Wekfest on the regular. Dave Chik, Jason Haradon and Chad Castelo are headlining a style of car building that promotes top notch restoration and implementing high end Japanese parts, and as such you're likely to find a lot of Mugen rarities on their cars. Chad's NSX is the latest car to come out of hiding, and was recently featured in Super Street's annual Honda issue. DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-10

Rob the Crook's (of Crooks & Castles) Honda CR-X

I am a sucker for old school Hondas if you couldn't tell, and Rob's REX on Super Fins is my idea of the quintessential '90s Honda. Nice to see he has an affinity for these even though he also owns both a Liberty Walk 458 and RWB Porsche. DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-12

M's JDM Motors EF Civic

This EF is what my EF wants to be when it grows up: JDM front end conversion, Vision bumper lenses, Mugen NR10Rs, Bride seats and a Mugen teardrop exhaust...just some of the parts I wish I had on my own car. DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-13

Phase2HeyMikeyyyy's Mirror-Glossy Engine Bay

I see Mikey's car a lot, and each time I do, he's added something new to it. Always a popular draw at Wekfest, this time the B18C sports a new LoCash mirror-polished valve cover. DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-14

Derrick Yee's Chevy SS

Don't laugh - ok, you can... but really, Derrick's Chevy SS turned Holden with a supercharger and Volk wheels is the kind of car only he could pull off and make look this good. Holden owners around the world would be proud. A real standout at Wekfest in a show filled with predominantly Japanese imports. And here's a bonus from Wekfest... DL-WKLA-EDIT-B-15

Elissa Alva, Miss Wekfest

No explanation needed really...
