2014 Grand National Roadster Show [GALLERY]

2014-GNRS-Drivingline-19 Sixty-five years old and known as the “Granddaddy of them all”, the 2014 Grand National Roadster Show is far, far from retirement. As the undisputed KING of the Southern California indoor hot rod shows, and maybe the best hot rod and custom car show in the world… GNRS is a show you don't want to miss. Given the history and prestige of GNRS, the best rides from all over the USA pack the Pomona Fairplex’s nine exhibition halls. Not only the best rides, but the best variety too! Easily one of the most enjoyable features of the show is studying and recording for your next build… How styles have changed… What’s never gone out of style… and what you’d do given your chance to build your own dream car. So here’s a few shots to show what ya missed… next January, make sure to put GNRS on your show calendar! 2014-GNRS-Drivingline-26 Even for two custom 1959-60 El Caminos (above and below) you’ve got mild custom to full-on mind blowing custom! 2014-GNRS-Drivingline-18 James Hetfield’s slick custom called, “Black Pearl” epitomizes radical custom with a one-off Marcel built body on top of a 1948 Jaguar frame. Shown in raw steel last year (and just as beautiful) this year, she’s all done. 2014-GNRS-Drivingline-Hetfield-black-pearl-24 Another once in a lifetime car shown at GNRS is this 1932 Ford Roadster “Barn Find”. Complete with Teddy Roosevelt hood ornament and window sticker, original leather seats front and back and a rare “Tux-away” soft top for the rumble seat in the back, this deuce was a rolling time capsule. 2014-GNRS-Drivingline-1 At the end of the main hall, Galpin Auto Sports (GAS for short) displayed the phenomenal show rod, the “Iron Orchid” (see a full Iron Orchid feature here). 2014-GNRS-Drivingline-27 Then,  just outside in the big GAS booth were two of my favorite rides from the show. A 4-engined 1969 Mustang used for match racing the infamous TV Tommy Ivo and the “Back-up Pickup” wheel stander. Look closely… this Econoline pickup is designed to run backwards with its rear wheels in the air. The wild paint, injected engines screaming… What a show that must have been! 2014-GNRS-Drivingline-28 2014-GNRS-Drivingline-30 You could easily stare at Brizio built hot rods for hours and never take in all their details. This black 1933 Ford Phaeton running a blown flathead should have been in the AMBR running!
