I can recall a very specific time in my life where I was obsessed with two things: watches and wheels. Back around '05-'06, I was always on the hunt for Casio G-Shocks for my wrist and wheels for my IS 300. Any type of streetwear collaborated time piece was my thing - BAPE, Stussy, or finding unique colors - and when it came to wheels, it all boiled down to a simple choice: RAYS Wheels, more specifically Volk Racing. I loved having staggered TE37s on that car. Those days have long passed though, and lately I'm less likely to wear a watch because I'm glued to my iPhone. And until I decide to pick up a better daily driver, there's not much point to pull the trigger on another set of Volks just yet. However, I can always make an exception, and in this particular exception, my friends at Mackin Industries and RAYS Japan just happened to combine two of my favorite brands onto a very special and extremely limited edition G-Shock watch. Meet the RAYS x Casio G-Shock GD-100. Produced in extremely small quantities for a Japan-only release (we're talking 100 total), the RAYS x Casio G-Shock GD-100 sold out immediately at 19,980JPN (about $165USD) and will be a tough find in the States as whatever remaining stock was sent to Mackin for promotional use only - which means, unless you're one of their best selling dealers, VIP or a long time marketing partner, the only way you can score one is off an online auction. Mackin says they've heard them go as high as $1,500USD on eBay UK, which is insane. Everything about this watch and its accompanying packaging is really well done. The box is similar to a RAYS wheel box, stating "FREE SIZE" where an actual wheel diameter would be mentioned. The watch itself is a standard issue GD-100 with a few small tweaks: RAYS white/blue corporate color scheme, RAYS branding (JAPAN POWER/company logos), etched RAYS logo on the backside and when you press the night light button, a red RAYS logo illuminates in the background. The watch was designed in collaboration with both RAYS and G-Shock designers. Whether RAYS decides to make more watches in the future remains to be seen, so it helps to watch online auctions to see if one will ever pop up. The RAYS x Casio G-Shock GD-100 is a true collector's piece for both G-Shock and car enthusiasts alike. And to drive you even more crazy, we want to show you the three EXTRA ultra-limited edition RAYS x Casio G-Shock GD-100 watches, which are impossible to find, won't be sold to the public (so don't bother asking Mackin!) and are so rare, we're lucky to have been able to find this group shot of all the variants together.
