UTVs at 2014 KOH + Results

koh-2014-start-line-pano For its 6th year, King of The Hammers has hosted a KOH UTV race in addition to Ultra4 and other classes. Both two- and four-seater UTVs compete and as the years have passed, these rigs are including more and more of the racing parts you'd expect to see on the Ultra4 cars...even though some people still refer to them as "golf carts." 2014-KOH-UTV-start Wednesday morning at 8:00am, before Ultra4 qualifying begins, the UTV racers - both PRO and Sportsman class - leave the starting line for the same course that Ultra4 KOH is run on. The UTV competitors have two laps to pass through, the first including more high speed trail and the second having more technical rock sections such as Aftershock, Chocolate Thunder, and Wrecking Ball. Pole positions were set by the racers qualifying times, so the first off the line were Brandon Sims #1913 and Dean Bulloch #1909. After the 25 PRO racers left the line, two at a time, the  11 Sportsman followed. Both classes followed mostly the same track. The first excitement off the line was a rollover around Mile 1 by Chris Barnett #1961. Before long the leaders - Sims, Mitch Guthrie #1, and Matt Enochs/Team Nasty #1924 - were in a head-to-head battle for the top spot and by Mile 60 they had a good 3-mile lead. At the second lap the top 3 headed into Aftershock with Enochs in the lead both in and out of this rock section, headed towards Chocolate Thunder. Other racers arrived at Aftershock and were waiting, lined up to get through. Casey Currie #2 was able to get the line around them to be the fourth out of Aftershock and chasing after the leaders. BNear Pit 2, John Duckworth #1920, bypassed the lead group to take overall first place. Heading into the Jackhammer, Sims is first PRO class being followed by Guthrie and Currie who nabbed the third PRO spot and trails a few miles behind. The leaders battled it out, with Guthrie finally passing Sims in Wrecking Ball and booking it to the finish line. 2014-koh-sportsman-utv-koh-first-place "Duckie" Duckworth managed to keep first overall (as a Sportsman) with a total time of 4:35:24, about 12 minutes before Cody Currie (another Sportsman) with 4:47:13. Guthrie would be third overall finisher, 1st in PRO class with a total time of 5:00:13- gaining his 5th consecutive King of The Hammers UTV title. PRO class second and third were claimed by Brandon Sims (5:08:27) and Casey Currie (5:34:27).Congratulations to the winners of  2014 King of The Hammers UTV!
