2015 Rocky Mountain Diesel Shootout Recap [Gallery]

Though it hit near record-breaking temps for August in Utah, the tarmac was hot, sticky and ready to lay out some fast times for the 2015 Rocky Mountain Diesel Shootout drags, an annual event hosted by Industrial Injection Diesel Performance at the Rocky Mountain Raceway, located just west of Salt Lake City, Utah. It's broken down into three simple classes: E.T., 12.0 Index Quick Diesel and Unlimited Heads Up. KWP_6888 The E.T. class consists primarily of your average-built truck, meaning street-driven/daily-driver with moderate modifications. KWP_6385 Verlon Southwick used his 2006 GMC 2500 to take the fastest time with 12.434 at 87.80mph, followed closely by Jeremy Pundt in his 2006 Dodge Ram at 13.823-seconds at 94.30mph. KWP_7229 In the 12.0 Index Quick Diesel Class, whoever gets closest to a 12.0 E/T without going faster wins the class, and it takes both skill as a driver and knowledge of your truck’s abilities and potential in order to win. Corbin Humphries won in a 2004 Chevy Duramax by clocking in a 12.366 at 99.32mph, followed very closely by Darryl Atkin in his 2006 Chevy Duramax, who completed his best run with a 12.875 at 106.24mph. KWP_7242 Unlimited Heads Up is where the real power comes out; racers went heads up using a pro staging tree and without any time restrictions. Just hammer down as the tree goes green and hope you’re the first to the finish. Here, anything goes as far as power modifications, so nitrous, massive turbos and parachutes to slow down are the “norm”. In this case, Dallas Hunt would take the final win in a 2001 Chevy 2500 after Jarid Vollmer's 2006 Dodge Ram broke at the line. Both of these drivers and trucks put down impressive times earlier in the evening with Vollmer laying down the fastest time of the night at 8.89 seconds at 159mph. Dallas Hunt took the win with 9.8-seconds at 149mph. KWP_6700 Check out our full gallery from the 2015 Rocky Mountain Diesel Shootout below:
