Recon Grappler on a Ford F-250 Tremor: 30,000 Mile Review
Andy Carter wanted an all-terrain tire that matched the aggressive look and off-road capability of his 2022 Ford F-250 Tremor, yet it had to still had to have good on-road manners because the truck would spend most of it's time towing a trailer cross-country.
Take a close look at these photos to see how well the Recon Grappler all-terrain tires have held up after more than 30,000 miles of towing duty and multiple weekends spent in the red clay off-road in Georgia. "I love these Recon Grapplers — they always had enough grip to pull both the truck and camper out of the mud, did great on the rocky trails, and they are well-mannered on the highway with reassuring grip and stability," Andy said.

Ricky Berry's 2022 Ford F-250 acts as a tow rig 90-percent of the time, but often has to venture off-road with the trailer. He needed an all-terrain tire that had a good bite when the pavement ends.
"When it came to tire choice, I had to make sure that it was smooth and comfortable on-road, yet could still maintain traction at these remote off-road show locations like King of the Hammers, Glamis, Sand Hollow, etc. After thousands of miles, I found the Recon to continue to prove to be the perfect all-terrain for a tow rig. The load range F options are really the extra insurance you need for a safe and stable tow in a variety of conditions and weather both on- and off-road," Ricky said.

Logging nearly 6,000 miles on these tires from Texas to Montana, Kristin Cline drove through rain, snow, light mud, dirt and plenty of regular highway miles. "All-in-all we couldn’t be more pleased with how the Recon Grapplers performed and how they’ve worn."
"On-road the Recon Grapplers track straight and provide confidence in curves. Encountering wet conditions didn’t change that, the tire design did a terrific job of expelling water and kept us solidly gripping the pavement," Kristin said.

Larry is the owner of this 2014 F-150, and the way he uses it made for ideal testing conditions for Nitto's Recon Grappler all-terrain tire. “I’m hard on my truck. I’ll tow my drag car behind my pickup to the drag strip, and when I’m finished racing my car, I’ll usually make a few passes in the truck, just because it’s fun, and then tow it all home. The next day might find me with some construction work in the form of a bed full of peanut-sized rocks or stacks of lumber for my next project. I expect my truck to do it all, which means the tires need to be just as tough as my truck,” Larry said.
“Not only did I think they were a good-looking tire when I first saw them, but they definitely improved the look of my truck once they were installed. I have received numerous complements on how much better my truck looks with these new Recon Grapplers,” Larry said.

Gas Monkey Garage's 2021 RAM TRX on Nitto Recon Grappler A/T Tires
For someone like Richard Rawlings, who is always on the run for the next deal, this truck was the perfect choice. To make this TRX even more capable to suit his needs, it was equipped with a set of Nitto Recon Grappler A/T tires.
Richard has been really impressed with these tires and told us, “Anyone that follows me, and all my Gas Monkey Garage endeavors, knows that I have high expectations for my vehicles and their drivability. These new Nitto Recon Grappler tires not only perform amazing on the paved streets but also on the Texas backroads. All while looking good and taking on whatever the road ahead throws at me and my crew.”
Nitto Recon Grappler Tires on a RAM 2500
The owner of this 2021 Ram 2500 Laramie, George, finds much of his truck’s life is spent commuting and performing regular dad duties, but it also needs to be able to make regular trips to his 200 acre timber property. Hastily cut roads for logging trucks mean deep ruts in the thick Georgia clay, and the state’s unpredictable weather means that those roads can unexpectedly turn into a thick, soupy mess. While the big Dodge was built to handle it, the OEM street tires were not.
Within a few months of buying the truck, George upgraded to a set of Nitto Recon Grappler all-terrain tires. "The aggressive-looking tread on the Recon Grapplers were just as quiet on the road as the OEM tires the truck was sold with. And my trips off-road in the Dodge aren’t for fun, so a boring, incident-free trip is a good day. The Recon Grapplers give me the confidence that I won’t get stuck, regardless of weather conditions, and that the job will get done," George said.
Recon Grappler Tires on a Dodge RAM 3500
Andrew Villablanca, a successful YouTuber who runs the channel "Just Diesels" decided to try Nitto Recon Grappler all-terrain tires on his 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Crew Cab.
After putting 10,000 miles on the all-terrain tires, Andrew has nothing but love for the Recon Grappler. “They don’t pull to one side or the other, are super grippy and silent — a tire that does it all. I’ve had them in ice and snow and thanks to the heavy siping they performed very well. They also do great in the desert, which is where the truck spends most of its time when it isn’t driving to an adventure or pulling a trailer on the highway.”

As a "truck guy," Richard has strong feelings about most A/T tires: "If you’re like me, you've rarely even looked at the all-terrain tire category, dismissing most all-terrains as basically street tires because of their boring, street tire look. All-terrain tires usually don't have the rugged look I want. Nitto's Recon Grappler A/T tire is the answer most truck guys are looking for: an aggressively styled all-terrain tire.
"I chose an F load range for this set of Recons that went on my GMC. This load range is arguably overkill for the half-ton GMC 1500, but I didn’t want to take any chances. Boy did it pay off. The truck now feels confident and planted when towing. Additionally, the reinforced block foundation of the Recon tread makes a huge difference in providing a solid feel. Ultimately, I am impressed by the Recon Grappler. Rugged looks, superior on-road handling, solid towing performance, and ample traction off-pavement."

Ali Mansour, an avid off-roader, had this to say about the Recon Grappler: "This is how the all-terrain as we know it was reimagined with the Recon Grappler A/T. Nitto designed this tire with the outdoor enthusiasts in mind. Fit with bold styling, massive lugs, and an aggressive tread pattern, the Recon Grappler A/T is anything but conventional."
"I tested these tires in a variety of terrains: rocks, sand, mud, rain, gravel — everything but snow. Over my time with the new tires, I have been continually impressed. They ride great on the road, make little noise considering the aggressive tread pattern, and work fantastic off-road. It’s also worth pointing out that the tires look great, which is an attribute I think tire manufacturers often overlook."

A long time Toyota fan and Lexus parts manager, Long Hoang built his 2019 4Runner TRD Off-Road into a capable off-road rig that balances trail duties on the weekend and commuting Monday through Friday.
Drawing on his twenty plus years of experience working in tire shops, Long had been impressed with the Nitto Recon Grappler’s engineering. He said, “you can definitely feel the quality in the rubber when mounting a Nitto. When balancing, these tires used minimal weights and road force numbers were outstanding compared to other brands.”
“I've faced sand, mud, rocky river crossings, uphill and downhill mogul terrains in all categories,” he said. “The 4Runner does fantastic without ever needing to lock the rear differential with the Recon Grapplers."
Recon Grappler Tires on a Toyota Sequoia
Jeff Westcott, of Westcott Designs, built this Sequoia for Toyota's booth at SEMA and needed a tire that matched the vehicle's personality. The Sequoia is prime for road trip adventures, so it needed tires that could handle both on- and off-road duties.
“The Recon Grappler from Nitto is a good mix of off and on road capability and it has a more aggressive style to it than most other all-terrain tires. But the ride isn’t rough even with its aggressive look.” Jeff said. “The tire’s reinforced sidewall design offers great traction and support while off road. And its reversible sidewall designs help to pick the look you are going for and dial into what terrain you are tackling.”
